Wolverines fall short to Trojans, miss play-offs by one game

Your Wakeland Wolverines fell to the Trojans of Troy this past Tuesday nigth by a score of 57-56. There was no love lost on this Valetine's Day as both teams fought an epic battle for the last play-off spot in District 9-4A. Unfortunately, the Wolverines came up one point short as the final buzzer went off. Head Coach Brent Benningfield reflected to Hiking Weekly, "tonight seemed to be the theme for our play in district this year..., we just couldn't reach the summit of the mountain against the teams in the top tier of District 9-4A." Vashun Lusk went out in style in his last game as a Wolverine by attaining a double-double, with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Cameron Walker added 7 points and 7 boards, while Sean Watkins added 8 points. The loss brings Wakeland's overall record to 15-16, with a 7-7 district record, and kept Wakeland out of the play-offs for only the second time in school history. The Wakeland Basketball Team would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the year, and next week it will be back to work in off-season as the Wolverines will look to prepare for next year.
